Tony Hilton, who had been a long-standing member of the Department of Psychology, died on December 29, 2014 at the age of 77.

Hilton received his undergraduate degree in psychology at Brown University and his doctoral degree from McMaster University. After completing a post-doctorate at McGill, Hilton joined the psychology department at Sir George Williams in 1968. He retired from Concordia in 1996.

Hilton was interested in topics that straddled the boundary between social psychology and sociology, including stereotyping, ethnic relations, and social cognition. He was a dedicated and gifted teacher who could inspire and challenge students.

Like others who grew up in the Western mountains of Maine, Hilton had affection for argument but stood back from argumentativeness. He was a principled person with a wry smile. He enjoyed conversation and cared about his friends, colleagues and department.
