Kicking off the Froot Cup
On Saturday, May 30, Concordia’s Office of Community Engagement once again hosts the Froot Cup, Santropol Roulant’s annual soccer tournament fundraiser. The friendly co-ed tournament raises money to help support the charity’s mission: to strengthen the community through social inclusion, youth engagement and food security.
Santropol Roulant was founded in 1995 with the goal of providing young people with employment and the elderly with subsidized, healthy meals. Today, through their Meals on Wheels program, the charity serves approximately 20,000 meals to 250 clients every year. This considerable undertaking is accomplished through the efforts of 700 volunteers, support from organizations like Centraide, and creative fundraisers like the Froot Cup.
This year, for the first time, Concordia has two teams participating in the tournament. Among the players representing Concordia are members of the Stingers women’s soccer team and a soccer player who once won a silver medal at the Special Olympics.
Members of Team Concordia are hoping to mobilize at least 200 people to make a tax-deductible donation of $25, so they can reach their goal of raising $5000 for the cause. You can donate by visiting the Team Concordia fundraising page.
Everyone is welcome to come and watch the Concordia teams battle it out at the Froot Cup, beginning at 10 a.m. on May 30 on the Loyola Maisonneuve Soccer Field (7141 Sherbrooke St. W.). There will be prizes and games for children, as well as plenty of action on the field.
Santropol Roulant is also hosting a bake sale to support their programs, from 11:30-2 p.m. on May 27, 2015, in the atrium of the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV), located at 1515 Ste-Catherine St.
