Update (August 18 at 2:30 p.m.): Concordia has finished flushing its water system in the MB and TB buildings after the City of Montreal lifted its boil water advisory last night. All water fountains are operational and water has been restored to the kitchen facilities in the MB building. Tap water is now safe for consumption in both the MB and TD buildings.

Update (August 18 at 9 a.m.): On August 17 at 6:40 p.m., the City of Montreal lifted its boil water advisory for the MB and TD buildings on Concordia’s Sir George Williams Campus. As a safety precaution, Concordia shut down the water to all of the drinking fountains and kitchen facilities in the MB building.

These fountains and kitchen facilities are now being systematically flushed before the water is deemed safe for consumption.

Once this process is completed (we’re estimating this should be done by early afternoon), the university will restore the water to the fountains and kitchens in the MB building and post a notice on the Concordia website (concordia.ca), Cspace, Twitter and Facebook.

Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.

Update (August 14 at 1:15 p.m.): The boil water advisory for the MB and TD buildings, issued by the City of Montreal on Thursday, August 13, remains in effect throughout the weekend and on Monday, August 17. As a safety precaution, Concordia has shut down the water to all of the drinking fountains and kitchen facilities in the MB building.

Once the city lifts the advisory, Concordia’s water system must be systematically flushed before tap water is deemed safe to consume. This is a process that will take at least 12 hours.

Look for updates on Concordia’s website (concordia.ca), Cspace, Twitter and Facebook.

Original message: The City of Montreal has issued a boil water advisory for the MB and TD buildings, located on the SGW Campus.

As a result, people are asked not to drink the water from the fountains or kitchen facilities unless it is boiled for a minimum of five minutes. As a precautionary measure, Concordia has turned off the water to the fountains and kitchens in the MB building. Water will still be available in the washrooms; however, we ask that people refrain from drinking this water.

The university will notify the community once the water boil advisory has been lifted and the university has completed its process to purge the water system to ensure it is safe for consumption.

We will update this page as more information becomes available.
