1. HIDDEN LAYERS OF THE CITY
Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) and Concordia outdoor screening series | FOFA Gallery Courtyard | Saturday, Oct. 10, Tuesday, Oct. 13 and Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
A series of 16 short, silent films filled with rich, textured imagery; poetry and delicately revealed secrets — accompanied only by the soundtrack of the city at night.
In collaboration with the Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Concordia has arranged to host Hidden Layers of the City, a series of outdoor screenings in the FOFA Gallery Courtyard on Ste-Catherine Street.
The evenings of alfresco cinema will feature films made by current and former Concordia students. Starting at 7 p.m. on each night, the 34-minute program will play in a loop several times.

2. THE BUSINESS OF BEER
To Get a Drink You Have to Sell: Advertising and Black Horse Beer in the 20th Century | Lachine Museum | Until January 1, Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
“Pour boire il faut vendre,” a Québécois drinking ditty, tells the story of a guy who sells off his wife’s stuff to buy beer. The tune serves as the inspiration behind the Lachine Museum’s exhibition, To Get a Drink You Have to Sell, which explores the evolution of beer advertising practices in Quebec through the iconic Black Horse beer brand.
Free, guided tours are presented in vaulted cellars that once served as the main production facility for Black Horse brew. History, marketing or design students can request specially tailored tours and activities.

3. FOOD ON FOUR WHEELS
First Fridays | The Esplanade Financière Sun Life, entrances on Pierre-De Coubertin Avenue, Pie-IX Boulevard and Sherbrooke Street | October 2, 4 to 11 p.m.
Gourmands rejoice! The largest rally of food trucks in the country is happening in Montreal.
October 2 is your last chance this season to indulge in the Olympic Stadium’s First Fridays. On the first Friday of every month from May to October, the park transforms into a food lover’s paradise. Treat your taste buds by sampling sumptuous fare from over 30 on-the-go vendors. Then sit back and enjoy the event’s festive vibes, complete with live music and a 200-seat patio.

4. TOTALLY RANDOM AND POTENTIALLY AWESOME
Auto-Fiction | Part of the Conseil des Arts de Montréal en Tournée | Park Raoul-Dandurand | October 3 at 2 p.m.
Three dancers, one car and a whole lot of jumping, sliding and running. Auto-Fiction is a live dance performance that uses movement and acrobatics to explore our love/hate bond with our vehicles.
Created by Montreal-based dancer/choreographer Milan Gervais, the free performance promises to take spectators for a ride. Expect to see travel stories, road rage, traffic jams and car crashes interpreted through dance.

5. THE LIBRARY IS YOUR FRIEND
What the Library Can Do for You | Vanier Library Building, Loyola Campus; J.W. McConnell Building, Sir George Williams Campus | Oct. 1 to 7, from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.
Whether you’re overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information at Concordia’s libraries, having trouble navigating their online databases or simply want to learn more about the different services available, this is a workshop for you.
A free, short information session, which aims to teach students how to get the most out of Concordia’s libraries, will be held at the Sir George Williams Campus on October 7.
