“From our days as office neighbours in the department, I have fond memories of Nikos’ generosity in sharing his time and philosophy – often accompanied with delicious Greek pastries,” says Murphy.
“He brought a European understanding of communication to a North American audience, and willingly shared his years of experience as an actor in the Royal Theatre of Greece prior to his coming to the United States for graduate studies.”
Metallinos taught television production, media aesthetics and media literacy to thousands of students in Communication Studies over the last three decades. He also served as the director of the Hellenic Studies Unit for several years.
In December 2014, at the age of 80, Metallinos retired after 34 years of service to Concordia.
Although teaching was his main passion Metallinos was also an avid gardener, who generously shared his harvest with staff members in Communication Studies.
He will be remembered fondly by his many students and colleagues. Metallinos is survived by his wife, Daisy.
