It’s time to hit the ice on Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG)’s newest outdoor skating venue, Le Rink.
Located in front of Concordia's PERFORM Centre (7200 Sherbrooke St. W), in the heart of the Loyola Campus, Le Rink is run by Concordia Stingers athletes as well as Krzysiek Kmiecik, coordinator for the Concordia summer camps.
“We took a page out of the Concordia summer sports camps playbook and brought back a favourite activity that embraces the city in the wintertime,” says Charly Plaisir, student coordinator of Le Rink.
The rink will be available to the NDG and Concordia communities provided there are no maintenance activities taking place. It is an open-air facility that will remain open weather permitting.
Safety first
Here are four rules to keep you, and Le Rink, in good shape:
- The use of pucks outside of organized hockey games is not allowed for security reasons.
- Community members must respect the maintenance time requirement to favour optimal ice conditions for everyone’s enjoyment.
- Alcohol and cigarettes are not permitted on the ice.
- Shovels available to users must be put back after use.
Let’s get the party started!
To kick off the season, the Concordia Galapagos Project (CGP) 2016 cohort is hosting its second annual CGP Shinny Hockey Meltdown tournament. The NDG and Concordia communities are invited to play a few games of pickup at Le Rink and enjoy snacks and warm beverages.
The CGP is an annual conservation and research trip for a group of undergraduate students in Concordia’s Department of Biology.
The fun starts at noon on Friday, February 19. Register as an individual or as a team of three to five players starting at 11 a.m.
Not a future hockey star? No problem! The tournament will also host a variety of competitions that will test speed shovelling and your ability to get dressed for a game as fast as possible.
If you’re looking for something to do after the tournament, stick around and cheer on the Concordia Stingers as they take on the McGill Redmen for Game 2 of the Ontario University Athletics playoffs. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at the Ed Meagher Arena (7200 Sherbrooke St. W.).
Register and join the Concordia Galapagos Project Shinny Hockey Meltdown on Friday, February 19, starting at 11 a.m. Players can register as a team of three to five players ($50) or individually ($10).
