Joseph Boyden returns to Concordia — this time to 'talk liberal arts'

One year after taking part in Concordia's Thinking Out Loud public conversation series, Giller Prize-winning author Joseph Boyden is coming back to the university for another edition.
On Monday, March 7 he'll join Rebecca Duclos, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and Jill Didur, associate professor in the Department of English, for a discussion about the meaning and importance of liberal arts education.
The event — made possible through a collaboration with the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Big Thinking series — begins at 6:30 p.m. in the D.B. Clarke Theatre, located in the Henry F. Hall Building on Concordia's Sir George Williams Campus.
Boyden won the Amazon/Books in Canada First Novel Award and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize for his first novel, Three Day Road (Penguin Canada, 2005). His second novel, Through Black Spruce (Viking Press, 2008) won the Scotiabank Giller Prize.
Last year, Boyden took part in a Thinking Out Loud conversation at Concordia with writer Kate Sterns, an associate professor in the Department of English. The discussion, about storytelling identity, was moderated by Jared Bland from The Globe and Mail.
