Every year, the Fête des neiges de Montréal includes such winter staples as sledding, skating and snow tubing. The festival has reinvented itself for Montreal’s 375th, and it’s offering more than 20 activities throughout Parc Jean-Drapeau, from an ice-sculpted pirate ship to a ferris wheel and dog sled rides.

Check out the Fête des neiges program.

2. Derby on Saint-Denis

Descente Saint-Denis Soapbox Race | 375th Hivernales | Saint-Denis Street between Sherbrooke and Emery | January 21 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Don't miss your chance to catch an old fashion soapbox race right in the city's downtown core. As part of the 375th Hivernales, racers will test their mettle -and their homemade soap-box cars- along a 280 metre obstacle course during the Descente Saint-Denis. And if spectating isn't your thing, the friendly competition is open to anyone eager enough to participate. Judges will award a 3000$ prize to the team that comes up with the most creative, speedy contraption.

3. Embrace Montreal's art scene

Possibles | 375th Hivernales | Centre CLARK | Beginning January 26

To celebrate its 375th anniversary, the city of Montreal will showcase an emerging artist at an unusual local venue every month throughout 2017.

The first Possibles vernissage will take place on January 26 and will feature Guillaume Adjutor Provost, whose work explores social inequalities in Montreal.

Check out the Possibles program.

4. The good old hockey game

Classique Montréalaise | 375th Hivernales | Parc Jean-Drapeau | January 28 to 29, starting at 8 a.m.
