October 1 – Election Day in Quebec

Under the Quebec Election Act, students are given the day off to vote. This means all instructional activities at Concordia, including classes, tutorials, labs and studio sessions are cancelled on Monday, October 1, 2018.

Students can vote on campus at advance polls

Concordia students, who are eligible to vote, can vote on campus only on designated days before the election at advance polling stations – even if they are registered in another electoral district.

The advance polling stations will be set up at Concordia on:

  • September 21, 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • September 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Polling stations will be located at: J. W. McConnell Building (LB Building), 1400 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.

To vote, students must be registered on the list of electors. Students are encouraged to visit Élections Québec to verify if they are on the list and how to change the information if it is incorrect.

Please note: Students cannot vote on campus on election day, October 1, unless they are a resident in the electoral district of Westmount-St-Louis.

Concordia faculty and staff cannot vote at advance polling stations on campus.

REMINDER: Make-up date – Sunday, September 30

With the fall term starting on a Tuesday and the Thanksgiving civic holiday falling on a Monday, we had already scheduled a make-up day on Tuesday, December 4. Since exams start on Wednesday, December 5, we could not find a weekday to hold an additional make-up day.

As a result, Sunday, September 30, 2018 has been selected as the make-up day.

Professors will advise students whether classes or other academic activities, normally held on October 1, are to be rescheduled on September 30.

REMINDER: Concordia to close at 4 p.m. on October 1

Under the Quebec Election Act, faculty and staff are allowed to take four consecutive hours to vote. As a result, Concordia will close its administrative offices at 4 p.m. on October 1 to provide faculty and staff with the required time to vote. Polls are open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
