Two Concordians received top honours at Canada’s Outstanding CEO of the Year award gala on February 12 in Toronto, Ont.
The headliner was Lino A. Saputo Jr., BA 89, co-chair for the Campaign for Concordia: Next Gen. Now.
He was named 2019 Outstanding CEO of the Year — an award that recognizes executives in Canadian business who exemplify integrity, insist upon excellence, earn the trust of others and have built a globally competitive organization.
“It is often said that you are only as good as those you surround yourself with,” said Saputo Jr., who is chair of the Board and CEO of Montreal-based Saputo Inc.
“This recognition is a reflection of the truly tremendous work of a passionate and dedicated team that is committed to living up to the values on which our company was founded over 65 years ago.”
In November 2019, the Amelia & Lino Saputo Jr. Foundation and the Mirella & Lino Saputo Foundation made a visionary gift of $10 million to Concordia to create the SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation.
At the award gala, Saputo was joined by Concordia MBA candidate Amanda Rushton, who won a Futures Fund Scholarship for Outstanding Leadership.
The aim of this award, which includes a $7,500 grant, is to honour and mentor business students who demonstrate exceptional leadership in their academic and extra-curricular initiatives.
Rushton serves as president of the John Molson MBA Case Competition Committee. In March 2019, her team won first place at the HEC Montréal Défi RSE/CSR Challenge.
