Shuffle 32's success can’t be told without crediting Nadia Chaudhri, professor in the Department of Psychology, who single-handedly raised more than $500,000.
Diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer 18 months ago, Chaudhri has chronicled her battle on Twitter. She quickly amassed a large following, more than 140,000 as of publication, thanks to her unshakeable positivity and her deeply honest posts.
When she entered palliative care in late August, Chaudhri joined Shuffle to raise funds for the Nadia Chaudhri Wingspan Award — a fund she created to support Concordia students from underrepresented groups who want to study neuroscience.
She shuffled in the corridors of her palliative care ward every day for as long as her body allowed.
For her extraordinary efforts and the inspiration she provided thousands around the world, Chaudhri was named Shuffler of the Year.
“Nadia, on behalf of the university, thank you for your remarkable contributions to Concordia as a teacher, mentor, star researcher and as a phenomenally inspiring citizen of our community,” said Carr during the closing ceremony.
“We are all thinking of you. We have all come to understand what a remarkably unbelievable person you are — keeping fighting the good fight.”
