Alumna Cherry Marshall named Concordia’s associate vice-president of Development
University Advancement has named Cherry Marshall, BA 06, MA 10, its new associate vice-president of Development, a role the two-time alumna will assume as of January 9.
Marshall, the current principal director of Development for the Faculty of Fine Arts, will provide strategic direction and leadership to Concordia’s various fundraising efforts. These range from pledges of support for specific academic programs or research goals to legacy bequests and gifts made through annual appeals and events such as Concordia Shuffle.
“I’m looking forward to working more closely with the entire Development team,” says Marshall. “It’s such a fantastic group, with so much potential. I’m really excited to help lift our talent up to make us even more successful.”
Marshall will also work in close collaboration with her Advancement colleagues, faculty deans and other senior administrators during the final phase of the Campaign for Concordia: Next-Gen Now.
Paul Chesser, BA 94, GrDip 97, Concordia’s vice-president of Advancement, says that after Marshall joined the Development team in 2017, “she quickly cultivated a proven track record of successful relationship-building.”
“Cherry secured impactful donations and provided critical guidance throughout her time with the Faculty of Fine Arts,” adds Chesser. “We’re tremendously proud of her accomplishments and look forward to this new chapter in her career with Advancement.”
It’s an opportune moment for a new challenge, says Marshall.
“It was such an exciting time in the Faculty of Fine Arts. One of the reasons why I felt like it was the right time to make this transition is because of all the success we’ve had and how well we’re set up for even more success in the future.”
What was some of her proudest work with the Faculty of Fine Arts? The Elspeth McConnell internship program and Art Volt, says Marshall.
“Both programs are donor funded, very well-managed and provide excellent opportunities for our students and alumni,” she remarks. “I feel like the work that’s been put in to establish these and other programs will continue to bear fruit for the faculty.”
Marshall, a native of England, earned both a BA in political science with distinction and an MA in public policy and public administration from Concordia.
A Certified Fundraising Executive, she has been involved with the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Quebec, has presented at the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and is a current student of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Academy.
Marshall will continue to support the advancement work of the Faculty of Fine Arts until her successor is named.
