Tanya Greenidge joined Richter — a Montreal-based firm offering a range of integrated business advisory and family office services — as a summer intern after her second year at Concordia.
"I never left. Something tugged at my heartstrings," says Greenidge, who went from staff to partner within 14 years.
During her time at the firm, she became an invaluable source of tax expertise, providing advice on structures, opportunities and strategies to enable clients’ long-term objectives.
In 2018, Greenidge set aside her specialty in taxation to lead Richter’s human resources team. She now focuses on developing highly integrated and sustainable people strategies for 500 employees across several locations.
“Moving to HR is the great pivot in my journey,” Greenidge says.
Keys to success
“You’ll find success through a love of learning, a passion for your work and an ability to follow your intuition. I worked with coaches and mentors who helped optimize my growth. It really takes a village because I wouldn’t be the leader I am today without that inward, reflective journey."
Career milestone
“Taking the bold decision to lead Richter’s HR department. It had only been six months since I was admitted to the firm’s partnership when I took a leap of faith. I trusted my heart because it’s never led me wrong.”
Toughest challenge
“I was two years into my current role when the COVID-19 crisis started, and I had to lead the firm’s pandemic response.”
Job satisfaction
“When I see the impact I can have on my organization and people’s lives. It fuels my commitment to succeed.”
Work on campus that paid off
“With one year of accounting studies under my belt, I applied for a job in the university’s financial services department. They hired me part-time for three years while I completed my studies. That job was instrumental in bringing theory into practice.”
Influential professors
“Tara Ramsaran [taxation]. Her storytelling made me fall in love with the world of taxation. Accounting professor Patrick Delaney’s guidance in studying for the Common Final Examination towards obtaining my CPA designation was vital.”
