Concordia has received $20,000 from Canada’s largest airline to create the Air Canada Bursary for Students with Disabilities.

Over a period of three years, the contribution to the Campaign for Concordia: Next-Gen Now will fund a total of four bursaries. The bursaries will provide crucial support for students registered with Concordia’s Access Centre for Students with Disabilities.

Successful candidates will each receive $5,000 to help them realize their educational goals. The initiative aligns with Air Canada’s commitment to improving accessibility for people by encouraging equitable access to education and professional development.

“At Air Canada, we believe that fostering inclusivity benefits everyone,” says Leslie-Ann Vezina, Senior Director, HR Centre of Excellence (COE), Travel and Talent at Air Canada. “As an airline, accessibility is central to our mission of connecting people and communities. We aim to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, can navigate the world with confidence and dignity.”

Air Canada has long supported organizations dedicated to improving accessibility and inclusion, empowering individuals with disabilities to participate fully in various aspects of community life.

At Concordia, the Access Centre for Students with Disabilities reflects a similar dedication to supporting individuals with diverse needs. Some 4,225 students are registered for services related to learning disabilities, mental-health conditions and physical impairments.

Through personalized accommodation plans and community-building initiatives, the centre strives to create an environment where every student has an equal opportunity to thrive. Services range from exam accommodations and assistive technology to guidance on advocating for oneself within the academic setting.

“The Air Canada Bursary for Students with Disabilities is a meaningful addition to our offerings,” says Adelina Feo, manager at Concordia’s Access Centre for Students with Disabilities. “A university education is a passport towards self-determination, stability and representation. Our whole community benefits from our students’ success.”
