At Concordia

Black Presence Hub: A space where Black students, faculty and staff can access culturally relevant resources, services and more. It’s intended to foster flourishing, support, community, and knowledge sharing, both on and off campus.

NouLa Black Student Centre: Offers programming, services, and resources for Black Concordia students to support our collective success and wellbeing.

Black Persepectives Office (BPO): Offers workshops and provides confidential support to Black Concordians who are navigating the impacts of systemic anti-Black racism, have been affected by anti-Black racial violence, and have concerns that intersect with racialization.

Phone and text support

Kids Help Phone: RiseUp Support for Black Youth: National, 24/7, bilingual e-mental health support service for Black youth ages 5 to 25. 

Black Youth Helpline: Specifically responds to the needs of Black youth, positioned and resourced to promote access to professional, culturally appropriate support.

Call BlackLine: Provides a space for peer support, counselling, reporting of mistreatment, witnessing and affirming the lived experiences for those who are most impacted by systematic oppression with an LGBTQ+ Black Femme Lens.

Community organizations

Black Mental Health Connections: Focused on the mental health and wellbeing of the English-speaking Black community in Montreal. 

Desta Black Youth NetworkOrganization that is focused on the employability needs of Black youth in Little Burgundy, addressing both systemic and personal barriers to employment.

Black Healing Centre: Provides access to free and subsidized therapy to members of the Black community and empowers people of African and Caribbean descent to reclaim their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.

Black Community Resource Centre (BCRC): A resource-based organization that strengthens community capacity by providing professional support to organizations and individuals in need. 

Wellness events and groups

When the Village Meditates: A non-profit dedicated to creating meditation, yoga and discussion spaces, as well as wellness retreats for racialized and marginalized people.

Black Joy Montreal: Creates safe and inclusive workshops and events where the diversity of Black voices and experiences are acknowledged, uplifted and showcased.

Overcoming Anxiety for Black Women Group: Hosted by Black Mental Health Canada, this group recognizes the unique challenges faced by Black women managing anxiety.

Resources and directories

The Lavender Collective: Find BIPOC mental health professionals. The Lavender Collective is a Black-led community effort, that advocates for culturally relevant mental health related needs in BIPOC communities through education, network and resource building. Currently on hiatus.

Healing in Colour: Offers a directory of BIPOC therapists who are committed to supporting BIPOC individuals—across all intersections.

Therapy for Black Girls Podcast: A weekly chat about all things mental health and personal development.
