Career events coming up in Fall 2015 term
Career and Planning Services (CAPS) will be offering several special events this semester to help you launch into a great career.
Education Career Fair
For education graduates and future graduates interested in teaching positions, the Education Career Fair on October 14th provides an opportunity to network with employers in this field. From 1pm-5pm in the Atrium of the EV complex (SGW Campus), representatives from school boards and tutoring centres will be ready to meet with students and respond to questions. For education students in 1st or 2nd year, this is a great chance to learn about what you can do while still in school to build up your teaching portfolio and accumulate experience that will interest potential employers.
Graduate and Professional Schools Fair
For anyone considering graduate school in their future, our Graduate and Professional Schools Fair brings representatives from 39 schools to the EV Atrium between 12pm-4pm on November 4th. Whether it is further study in Montreal, across Canada or abroad that is of interest to you, come and learn about programs, admission requirements, fees and all the benefits of continuing your education.
Careers in Building and Civil Engineering Panel Discussion
New for this Fall on November 12th, we have our Careers in Building and Civil Engineering Panel Discussion, held from 3pm to 5pm in Room H-765, SGW Campus. Students interested in learning about career options in these fields are invited to attend this panel discussion, where alumni and industry professionals will share their experiences, success stories and offer tips and advice to help students build a successful career. A question and answer period will allow audience members to ask questions of any of the speakers.
From past experience of our dedicated panels, we can say that many students walk away feeling more inspired and better prepared for the job market after hearing from successful alumni. These events (open to all interested students and alumni) are well attended so we recommend registering early!
Job Search Preparation for International Students
Also brand new is our workshop series Job Search Preparation for International Students. A 5-part workshop running weekly on Fridays from October 2nd to November 6th at the International Students Office (H-653, SGW Campus), this series is designed to provide international students with useful tools and information to find work in Canada upon graduation such as essential guidance on legal considerations of work in Canada, crafting cover letters and resumes and tools and strategies for networking and interviewing. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge of the job search strategies they need to find work, and be able to effectively convey their skills and achievements to employers.
As each workshop session builds on the last, this series is a closed group where students are expected to attend all five sessions and will not be able to join the workshop series after the first session. Upon finishing the five, students will receive a certificate of completion.

NB: JMSB students are invited to register with Career Management Services (CMS) for their own International Student Career Seminar series, with undergraduate sessions running from October 16th through November 6th and graduate sessions November 4th to 18th.
