Elie Wiesel, acclaimed writer, professor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, joined Concordia President and Vice-Chancellor Judith Woodsworth and about 80 guests for a cocktail reception at Sofitel Montreal on October 19, 2010.

Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, talked about his love of learning and the important role that books played in his and the Jewish people's survival.

"Every book contains something sacred," he said.

Earlier, Wiesel addressed about 450 students and others in the Henry F. Hall Building's room H-110 as part of the Concordia Student Union Speaker Series.

In his lecture, called "An Evening with Elie Wiesel," he spoke of the importance of keeping memories alive about the Holocaust and other atrocities.

"Forgetting will be a crime as horrible as the event itself," Wiesel said.
