A president's welcome for Stingers
Nearly 200 Concordia Stingers, coaches and staff packed the Loyola gymnasium for President Alan Shepard’s recent welcome reception for athletes.
Shepard commended athletes for their dedication to their respective sports and to the university. He cheered them on, wishing them athletic and academic success, pointing out the connection between being active in sports and cultivating the character and skills to get ahead in life.

“I find it really motivating that our president appreciates sports and encourages students to participate. I’m looking forward to meeting him personally,” said women’s rugby player and second-year theology student Erika Ikonomopoulos, who appreciated the occasion to see all the Stingers teams together as a family.

Shepard took the opportunity to chat with students over pizza and refreshments and encouraged them to approach him when they cross paths on campus.
“This kind of event makes us feel closer and lets us know the president is approachable if we need anything,” says Kafil Eyitayo, a civil engineering student and a member of the men’s basketball team.

Shepard later made his way to the Ed Meagher Arena on the Loyola Campus to drop the puck as the Concordia Stingers men's hockey team faced off against Les Patriotes from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.
