Welcoming words from Advancement and Alumni Relations

Bram Freedman, Concordia’s Vice-President, Development and External Relations, looks forward to meeting graduates.

Unlike many people, I always look forward to summer’s end, since fall is when Montreal comes alive with an influx of students  returning to classrooms, labs, studios and other creative spaces. At Concordia, over 46,000 students will be bringing fresh energy to our Loyola and Sir George Williams campuses.

Fall is an exciting and busy time at Advancement and Alumni Relations (AAR), a department  that I have had the great privilege of overseeing since last month.

At AAR, we team up with your alumni associations to host events such as Homecoming, which takes place October 3 to 6 in 2013. During three action-packed days, graduates will return to reunite with old friends and former professors, attend lectures and meet our president, Alan Shepard, who has brought considerable momentum to our university.  

With the help of our staff, faculty members and countless volunteers, we also organize the Shuffle walkathon between our two campuses. This grassroots event raises over $50,000 every year — for over $1 million raised since its debut two decades ago — impressive support from our community. More than 700 took part in Shuffle 2012 and 1,000 attended the President's Picnic afterwards. Everyone is invited to take part in Shuffle 24, including alumni, on September 27.

Events like these help us fulfill our mission ― to inspire and engage alumni and friends. And with more than 177,000 grads around the globe, your contribution as our ambassadors and champions is key to our institution’s success.

Should you be an international graduate, please consider joining one of our 23 alumni chapters in 10 countries. After his recent visits to Ottawa, Calgary, Boston and New York City, our president will soon be reaching out to more alumni. In the coming months and years, we hope to visit as many alumni chapters and locales as possible — from New England to New Delhi — to reconnect with Concordians.

Of course, we collaborate closely with our three alumni associations: the Concordia University Alumni Association, as well as those of the university’s two founding institutions, Sir George Williams University and Loyola College. Take part in the many events we co-organize throughout the year to stay in touch with your alma mater.
