Science tells us that physical strength peaks at 25 years of age. That’s good news for the 25th Concordia Shuffle, an annual event whose silver anniversary continues with a walk from the Sir George Williams Campus to the Loyola Campus to raise funds for student scholarships and bursaries.

The 6.5 kilometre walk, organized by Advancement and Alumni Relations and volunteers, has raised over $1 million since it begun.

Most shufflers are faculty, staff and people who are regularly involved in the Concordia community. The last two years have also included dozens of student Shufflers.

Shuffle 25 promises many special moments and organizers would love to see more people join the walkathon.

“It’s like a super Friday,” says Jang Kwon, manager of administrative systems for Concordia's Instructional and Information Technology Services and chair of the Shuffle 25 Advisory Committee. “Following the shuffle will be the President’s Picnic, and following that will be the Stingers game. It’s just a day of fun.”

Concordia Shufflers Shufflers at last year's walk get ready to leave for Loyola.

This year, there’s also an added incentive for students —those who raise $25 or more are eligible to win an iPad mini.

Shuffle 25 will see a new way of organizing teams. Previously, people would automatically be teamed up by faculty or department. Now participants can create their own official teams.

Anyone who can’t make the walk can still support it by donating to people individually or sponsoring a whole team.

Sophie Mailloux, assistant to the associate vice-president of Student and Enrolment Services, has shuffled for four years, since she began working at Concordia. She joined the Shuffle 25 advisory committee after volunteering in 2013.  “Every dollar goes to the students, which I think is really important.”
