Concordia donors gathered on October 8 to celebrate the university's 40th anniversary, four decades of giving and to be thanked as generous benefactors.

Organized by Advancement and Alumni Relations, the event celebrated the $300 million in gifts donors have generously contributed to advance Concordia over 40 years.

About 250 guests attended, including some 40 student leaders.

Radio-Canada journalist Joyce Napier, BA 81, emceed the festivities. Podium speakers included Concordia President Alan Shepard, the Honorable Jean Charest, former Quebec premier, and graduate Eric Moses Gashirabake, BA 13.

Former Quebec Premier Jean Charest spoke warmly of Concordia’s place in the “fabric of Quebec society and Canada.”

Concordia celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2014 — four decades since the merging of the classic liberal arts tradition offered by Loyola College and the practical educational opportunities offered by Sir George Williams University into a next generation university.
