Call for open positions on the alumni association board of directors

Message on behalf of Kim Fuller, Chair, Concordia University Alumni Association Nominating Committee

The board of directors of the Concordia University Alumni Association (CUAA) is seeking members to join our enthusiastic and vibrant group of volunteers who actively support Concordia’s vision and mission of becoming a leading, next-generation university.

Who we are and what we do

We proudly represent 188,000 graduates from all walks of life. We strive to “be the leading network for alumni to contribute to and benefit from the Concordia community and its reputation.”

We partner with Concordia University's Advancement & Alumni Relations team to provide programming tailored to the needs of our network of communities.

Our mission is to:

  • Foster a lifetime connection through meaningful professional, academic and social opportunities for alumni, the University and the community.
  • Spark active participation of current and future alumni to strengthen Concordia’s reputation and outreach worldwide.
  • Partner with the university and its supporters to create lasting positive change.

What does it mean to be a board member?

As a board member, you will be a member of a team of committed alumni leaders whose mandate is to promote and protect the interests and welfare of the university and alumni association.

Your responsibilities shall be to:

  • Provide a model of leadership for all alumni and alumni groups.
  • Stay current of and promote the vision, mission, news, policies, and programming of the university and alumni association.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in board and committee meetings by:
    • Asking questions, sharing knowledge and expertise, and helping the board make decisions that benefit the university community.
    • Serving on at least one committee and playing a leadership role and/or undertaking special assignments.
    • Providing timely responses to requests and notices.
  • Represent the university and alumni association with pride at community and campus events, with organizations and with individuals.
  • Use one’s network of influence to contribute to the further development of the university and alumni association based on current needs and priorities [i.e. identification of reunion volunteers (Class Champions), regional contacts, potential board members, potential award recipients, “connecters,” fundraising prospects].
  • Support the university financially through an annual gift each fiscal year, payable over the course of the year.

Meeting schedule

The board of directors meets 6-7 times per year. Meetings typically occur on Thursday evenings and run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Executive committee meetings typically occur on Friday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Committee meetings typically occur during lunch or in the evenings.
