Silver is a sweet colour — especially for prizes. Concordia won its first international award for a fundraising publication, Raising Our Game, a new brochure to promote Stingers teams and varsity sports.

Raising our Game The Raising our Game brochure earned Concordia a 2016 CASE Circle of Excellence Award.

Concordia scored a silver in the Individual Fundraising Publications category, as part of the 2016 CASE Circle of Excellence Awards, presented by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Concordia was in good company, with fellow winners including the University of Michigan (grand gold), Princeton University (gold) and the Marshall School (bronze).

According to CASE: “This award acknowledges superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and deliver exceptional results.”

Sylvain-Jacques Desjardins, BA 97, director of communications for Concordia’s Advancement and Alumni Relations (AAR), lauded his team for earning this CASE prize. “By competing for CASE Circle of Excellence Awards, we got to compare ourselves against peers with far deeper pockets and much longer histories in production of development and promotional materials,” he said.

“Our team won in a year that CASE received a record number of submissions — a total of 3,356 entries from 185 institutions across 10 countries,” added Desjardins. “Our brochure is entitled Raising Our Game, a goal we achieved in winning this accolade.”

Raising Our Game was produced by AAR Communications and penned by special projects writer Luke Quin. Original design was produced by Stephen Pan with editing by Howard Bokser.

Colleagues who lent skills included AAR coordinator and proofreader Ginette Leduc, external proofreader Kathleen Putnam, University Communications Services’ lead graphic designer Christopher Alleyne and University Communications Services’ executive director Sami Antaki.

Patrick Boivin, director of Recreation and Athletics, whose team weighed in at critical points of this project, thanked AAR Communications for “allowing our athletic voice to be properly heard in the process, making for a great collaboration.”

“We are proud and thankful to have been involved in this great example of departments working extremely well for a common goal,” Boivin continued.

“A hearty congratulations to all involved for this first-ever international prize for a fundraising brochure,” said Bram Freedman, vice-president of Advancement and External Relations.
