A proud evening for Concordia philanthropy
From athletics to philosophy, student support eases the educational journey for bright up-and-comers. At the Donor and Student Awards Celebration, the vital link between generosity and first-rate talent was given the spotlight. The annual event invites donors to meet the students they help support through scholarships, awards and bursaries.
A total of 340 guests — the most in the celebration’s history — gathered at the Hotel Omni Mont-Royal on March 30, 2017. Hosted by Advancement and Alumni Relations, the event’s master of ceremonies was Bram Freedman, vice-president of Advancement and External Relations.
Speakers took to the stage to share their Concordia pride and discuss the importance of philanthropy.
The speakers included Concordia President Alan Shepard on the impact gifts have on students and the university; donor Randall Kelly, BComm 78, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Formula Growth Limited, on investing in students and how Concordia transformed his life; scholarship recipient Oliver Hinse, BA 16, former captain and top-scorer on the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team, on pursuing his goal to work with children; and PhD candidate Natalie Fletcher, who credits support from the McConnell Memorial Doctoral Fellowship for enabling her to push boundaries with her research on Brila, a charity that offers creative philosophy programs for children.
