Montreal’s vibrant university life makes it the most popular city in the world among students and the top North American city for students according to the most recent rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

Montreal

The collective contributions of the local universities indeed benefit the entire city.

The newly launched 10 ensemble (10 together) campaign celebrates those contributions by Greater Montreal’s 10 university institutions, including Concordia. Recognized as powerhouses of innovation, research and culture, the universities enrich local communities, making Montreal a smarter, stronger and more dynamic metropolis.

The participating institutions in 10 ensemble are:

  • Concordia University
  • École de technologie supérieure
  • École nationale d’administration publique
  • HEC Montréal
  • Institut national de la recherche scientifique
  • McGill University
  • Polytechnique Montréal
  • Université de Montréal
  • Université de Sherbrooke (Campus Longueuil)
  • Université du Québec à Montréal

Anchoring the 10 ensemble initiative is “The Roaming Classroom” — a wandering urban art installation. It was launched at le belvédère on Mount Royal on May 25, 2018, in the company of Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante, City of Montreal executive committee member François Croteau, Concordia President Alan Shepard and representatives of the nine other institutions.

“Our university establishments are so much a part of the Montreal landscape that we tend to take them for granted. Yet our lives wouldn’t be the same without them,” said Jean-Philippe Wauthier, BA 03, spokesperson for the campaign and a graduate of Concordia and Université du Québec à Montréal. “We forget the number of services, activities or innovations that derive from the university community.”

The 10 ensemble campaign also highlights 10 innovations developed by the brilliant minds trained in the 10 university institutions. Concordia is lauded for its pioneering solar heating advances installed in the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex.

“The Roaming Classroom” installation will appear in different locations across the city until June 10, 2018. The next stop is the Village on Thursday, May 31.
