Gina Cody, MEng 81, PhD 89, has been named Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), a national institution comprised of Canada’s top engineers, at a ceremony in Quebec City on June 21, 2019.

Academy Fellows are nominated and elected by their peers in recognition of distinguished achievements and contributions to the engineering profession.

Cody was honoured for her professional accomplishments as an engineer and business leader, her work supporting gender equality, diversity and inclusion, and in recognition of her commitment to philanthropy.

Also inducted into the academy was Meyya Meyyappan, LLD 18, a pioneer in nanotechnology research and chief scientist for Exploration Technology at NASA’s Ames Research Center.

Meyya Meyyappan, LLD 18, Meyya Meyyappan, LLD 18, holds 22 nanotechnology patents for materials such as flexible printable electronics, chemical and bio sensors, energy storage devices and self-healing electronics for deep space exploration.

The Canadian Academy of Engineering is an independent and self-governing body that works closely with other senior Canadian and international academies. The Academy is one of the founding members of the Council of Canadian Academies and is a member of the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences.

The former executive chair and principal shareholder of a major Canadian engineering firm, Cody made history in 2018 with a $15 million gift to Concordia’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. The faculty was renamed the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science (GCS), becoming the first engineering faculty in Canada named after a woman.

Her gift is the largest, to date, in support of the Campaign for Concordia: Next-Gen. Now, which launched in 2017.

Cody is an active member the Concordia community and sits on the university’s Board of Governors, Governance Committee, Real Estate Planning Committee and chairs the GCS Industry Advisory Board. She is also on the board of trustees of CAPREIT, one of Canada's largest residential landlords.
