Erik Levy has learned that growth requires determination and taking chances while still staying true to his values. This strategy has taken him from studying Actuarial Mathematics at Concordia, to his first Co-op internship that launched a career that has led him to today being a Managing Director at BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager.
He does not only have a leading role at a company with US$6.5 trillion in assets under management, he is a founding member of BlackRock’s Long Term Private Capital (“LTPC”), a global private equity fund focused on longer-term investing.
Proudest career moment
“As part of LTPC at BlackRock, we are creating a differentiated approach to private equity investing, which I am very proud of. I am also proud to have been a founding member of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s direct private equity business. As a team, we transformed a passive investment organization into one of the most active global investors. We also helped create a global role model for institutional investing that continues to benefit most Canadians. It was an outstanding professional opportunity with a very positive social and fiduciary role.”
Biggest career challenge
“Career progress isn’t always linear, and sometimes you need to force change in order to achieve your objectives. Change is hard, but in my case it has always led to incredible personal growth and new opportunities.”
Concordia’s contribution to success
“The program equipped me with analytical skills that have been instrumental throughout my career. I was also fortunate to be part of the Co-op program, which helped me gain invaluable work experiences early in my career.”
Who inspired you at Concordia
“My parents. Each of them immigrated to Canada with very little and worked extremely hard to provide for their family. Their work ethic and support have always inspired and motivated me.”
