INDIGENOUS CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGY ADVISOR (C1819)

This posting represents a two (2) year full-time contract position.

Scope

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, Innovation in Teaching and Learning with a dotted line report to the Director of Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives to advance Concordia’s priority to include Indigenous knowledges and ways of knowing in curricula and teaching practices.

Primary responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct consultations on integration of indigenous course content and pedagogical practices through individual and group sessions.
  • Develop and deliver faculty workshops and training sessions.
  • Facilitate program/curricular consultations
  • Work with Faculty members to identify and accompany, as necessary, Elders/knowledge keepers/community representatives in the classroom.
  • Manage relationships with knowledge keepers
  • Maintain close relationship with the Indigenous Directions Leadership Group.
  • Conduct anti-colonial training for Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty.
  • Liaise with other members of the CTL to develop online content and programming as related to indigenous knowledges, practices and methodologies
  • Liaise with Indigenous faculty and staff members, as well as students.
  • Build repository of resources for faculty and staff.
  • Assess effectiveness of activities and action plans regarding mandate and leverage data gathered to drive strategic planning.
  • Assist unit curriculum representative in the writing of program and course proposals, prepare supporting documentation and assist in inputting information into the university’s curriculum software.
  • Participate in faculty recruitment activities (attends job talks and hiring committees across the university), as invited.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in a field relevant to the primary responsibilities and four to seven years of related experience with preferably two years of experience in Indigenous curriculum development and/or Indigenous pedagogical methodologies. Master’s Degree in Education desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated experience in developing curriculum and public education materials as well as familiarity with issues pertaining to copyright regulations in curriculum.
  • Capacity to engage members of diverse communities and skilled in a variety of consultation techniques, protocols and strategies.
  • Very good spoken and written English (Level 5) and good spoken and written French (Level 4) in order to and deal with complex situations in both official languages. Knowledge of Indigenous languages an asset.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise and complete verbal and written information at a level appropriate to the audience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Word, good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Excel and basic knowledge of PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, organizational, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Experience in planning, preparing and delivering training for faculty in higher education and obtaining feedback. Demonstrated ability to create higher education curriculum that centres Indigenous knowledge and reflects Indigenous pedagogies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Strong research and analysis skills using various methods including databases, internet, survey/evaluation tools, library and university reference materials.
  • Superior ability to exercise judgment, maintain a high degree of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous knowledge systems, languages, pedagogies, nations and communities.
  • Strong organization, prioritization skills and ability to manage workload.
  • Strong ties to Indigenous community(ies).
