Concordian Riya Dutta wins national 3 Minute Thesis competition
Master’s student takes top prize for her presentation on diversifying research.

Riya Dutta, a graduate student in software engineering, took first place in the national 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) showcase at the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies annual conference in Victoria B.C. on November 10.
Her winning presentation is titled “Like clean hands? Diversify your research!” It beat out seven regional winners from across the country.
Her road to the national crown came through winning the Concordia 3MT competition in March, followed by a victory at the eastern regional competition that took place at Dalhousie University in June.
“Concordia should be very proud of Riya’s amazing accomplishment,” says Faye Diamantoudi, dean of graduate studies. “Summarizing complex research in 180 seconds is never easy. To stand out among some of the country’s best and most articulate master’s and doctoral students says a lot about Riya’s talent and passion for her subject matter.”
