Call for proposals: Interdisciplinary Working Groups
Are you interested in AI research that is collaborative and interdisciplinary? Do you want to engage with community members, researchers, and professionals with methods, data, and disciplines that compliment your own? Form a working group!
The Applied AI Institute will fund working groups committed to interdisciplinary research that aligns with our guiding principles. We encourage mixed methods and research that is exploratory, experimental, slow, and creative.
Working Group Structure
Each AI2 working group will include one lead faculty member. This person will be responsible for reporting to AI2, convening regular meetings with group members, and delivering a public output within 12 months of receiving funding. Group members, including student researchers and community members, are expected to be active members of the group, contributing to the creating and realizing your shared goals.
Share Your Findings (or Your Process)
Each group must commit to a public output. This might be a shared research grant, toolkit, workshop, exhibition, white paper, or other kind of event or public document. We will provide support and feedback so that you can maximize the impact of your work and expand the communities you engage with.
Funding Details
Each working group is eligible to receive up to $10 000. Awards will vary according to the proposed budget.
8000 to support student research and honoraria for community-members
2000 for all other expenses

The Concordia Applied AI Institute (AI2) is a multi-disciplinary applied research unit representing more than 120 faculty members and their graduate students from the 4 Concordia University faculties. AI2 is a values-driven institute, committed to engaged leadership, caring for AI’s community and consequences, and responsive to public interest. We support AI that improves, rather than maintains, the status quo. Through workshops, panel discussions, publications, and other avenues, we facilitate meaningful engagement with issues related to AI governance and adoption.
