Black Arts Series Film Screening 2024
Deadline to appy June 24, 2024. Email exhibition.coordinator@concordia.ca for details.
Call for submissions
For this second iteration of the Black Arts Series Film Screening, the Visual Collections Repository (VCR), the NouLa Black Student Centre and the FOFA Gallery are seeking short films, performance videos, documentaries, and animated works for the Black Arts Series Film Screening taking place on Concordia’s SGW campus in Montréal in the fall of 2024.
Deadline to submit: June 13, 2024, 11:59 PM (EST)
Fee: Each filmmaker/artist will receive an honorarium of $400 for the projection of their film. Additional compensated opportunities to provide social media content or participate in a brief speaking appearance at the launch may be possible, pending funding.
Thematic Statement:
Applicants are encouraged to apply on the theme Collective Symphonies, which explores how sound informs our connections with the world. Key concepts include the examination of an ensemble of voices (as in a choir or cacophony), hymns of resistance and joy, sound frequencies and their felt effects, and our relationship with non-human sounds. This call aims to investigate how these notions help us generate cultural or emotional bridges, a refuge, or mnemonic devices.
General submission requirements
The submission must be from a Concordia student or alumni who identifies as Black* (see application form for definition)
It must be between 2 to 20 minutes long
The applicant must have full copyright of the work and authority to circulate the work for public screening
We prioritize films whose theme or subject matter directly or indirectly deal with Black experiences or feature a Black protagonist.
The candidates maintain final edits and copyright control.
We encourage submissions with captions for accessibility, bilingual (FR & ENG, or just one of the two) if possible.
The Black Arts Series co-presenters currently do not have the resources to fund the completion of works or consider proposals for commissions.
