“I want to address the marginalization of queer narratives within Canadian art history and contribute to the development of a queer counter-canon. A recurring interest of mine has been how trans and gender-non-conforming artists embody their gender identities. Considering the symbiotic emergence of video art and performance, I explore “performing for the camera” as a hybrid medium that offers subversive strategies for realizing one’s gender identity “beyond the binary.” My goal is to further the representation of LGBT+ narratives in Canadian contemporary art at the intersection of performance, video art, and gender identity.”
