Office 365 Education - students

Active Concordia students have access to Office 365 Education - a collection of services that allows you to collaborate and share your schoolwork.

The services are available for free and include an email address, Office online (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote), 1 TB of OneDrive storage, Yammer, and SharePoint sites.

The subscription also allows you to install the full suite of Office software on up to 5 computers and 5 mobile devices free of charge.

How to get it?

The first step to enrolling for Office 365 Education is to obtain your Concordia email account.

  • First, activate your student email account
  • Once your email account has been successfully activated, you can access the Office 365 login page using the following login credentials:
    • Enter your_netname@live.concordia.ca on the main login page.
    • You will be redirected to the Concordia-specific login screen
    • Enter your netname and password (same as the Student Hub) to log in.  

Note: The link to activate your email account can also be found on the Student Hub's My CU Account page. The creation process takes 2 business days to complete. Your email address will follow the standard format: firstname.lastname@mail.concordia.ca

To access your Concordia email address, login on Office 365 Outlook with your_netname@live.concordia.ca, and when redirected to the Concordia-specific login screen enter your netname and password to log in.

If you want to configure a different email client, you can retrieve the neccesarry settings from the Outlook Web interface, selecting Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Sync email > POP and IMAP. This page is maintained by Microsoft. Concordia University is not responsible for updating this page.

FAQ

Activate your Office 365 email account. Your account will be accessible in 2 business days.

You will be able to activate your email account at the start of the term for which you are registered. It is best to wait until after the first day of classes to activate your account.

All students have access to the same set of Office 365 apps which includes online versions of the office suite and a set of additional apps used for collaborating and file sharing.

To get a complete and up to date list of the apps available, please log into the Microsoft online portal.

To install Office 365 Education, your device must meet the minimum system requirements.  

If you have already activated the @live.concordia.ca email account, you may choose to activate the new @mail.concordia.ca email alias.

To activate the alias:

  • Activate your Office365 email.
  • Your alias will be created within 48 hours. You will continue to have access to your emails while the activation request is processed.

On the main login page, you will need to enter 'your_netname@live.concordia.ca' to access the Concordia-specific login page.

On this page, your username and password are the same as your Student Hub netname and password. If you have forgotten them, visit the password reset page.

If it's been 2 business days since you've activated your account and you have followed the above instructions, but are still unable to login, contact the Service Desk with the following information:

  • Your netname.
  • When you’ve activated your account.
  • If you are a currently registered student or when you’ve last attended courses at Concordia.
  • Any error messages you have received.
  • If you’ve ever been able to access the account.

Note: If you are logged into any other Microsoft services (live.com, Hotmail, MSN, etc.), you will be unable to login to your Office 365 account at the same time. Ensure you have logged out of these services before attempting to access your @mail.concordia.ca account.

The applications included in the desktop version of Office 365 vary depending on your device’s operating system. On a PC computer, the suite includes the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Lync and InfoPath. On a Mac computer, the latest versions of Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word are included.

Make sure your Concordia email has been activated then follow these instructions for Apple MacOS or Windows.

Microsoft (MS) Teams is a collaboration app that integrates a number of tools from Microsoft. MS Teams can be used for video meetings, persistent chats, file collaboration, project coordination and video streaming. Faculty and staff can create their own Teams and invite colleagues to join them to collaborate with them.

We encourage students to learn more about using Microsoft Teams through this quick start guide or by watching Microsoft orientation videos.

Certain words in Teams names have been restricted to avoid confusion. If you think you have a legitimate need for one of these restricted words, please contact the IITS Service Desk to submit a request.
