Agreement-in-principle reached with Concordia's teaching and research assistants
Concordia and TRAC — the labour union local comprising the university’s teaching and research assistants — have reached an agreement in principle.
“This agreement in principle is the culmination of many months of thoughtful deliberation and respectful negotiating on both sides of the bargaining table,” says Jeremy Tessier, president of TRAC. “We are pleased with the outcome and we look forward to presenting it to our members on July 25 and 26.”
After TRAC signs the memorandum of agreement, the next step in the process is to present the proposed collective agreement to Concordia’s Board of Governors for final approval.
Once the board approves the agreement, it will take effect only after being signed by both parties.
Nadia Hardy, vice-provost of Faculty Relations, says the proposed agreement came from collaboration between the two bargaining teams.
“I am very proud of the work both teams did at the table, genuinely engaging in a principle-based bargaining exercise and jointly working on solutions to commonly identified problems,” she says. “It was hard work, but the teams managed to keep a friendly and respectful climate all along.”
Roger Côté, vice-president of Services, echoes these sentiments.
“I congratulate and thank both parties for attaining this significant and successful outcome. I look forward to building on this positive relationship with TRAC.”
