CARE Bioinformatician for Computational Genomics

Position title:  Research Associate

P. I or immediate supervisor: Dr. Marie-Julie Favé

 

Job descriptionReporting to Dr. Marie-Julie Favé, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out research tasks in the computational genomics group and offering support to the members of the Biology department in genomics activities.

 

Responsibilities will include:

•      Develop and apply bioinformatics and biostatistics analytic strategies for large scale genomics data analysis (whole-genome sequencing, genotyping, single-cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, metagenomics, epigenomics data, CRISPR screen data).

•      Organise multi-omics data on computing servers.

•      Interact with all members of the team and other groups in SynBio to elaborate analytic strategies and support students in learning process of computational genomics.

 

Qualifications/skills required:

•      Graduate degree in bioinformatics, computational genomics, or in a related field.

•      Experience with coding in R, Python, Bash and interacting with high-performance computing servers (e.g. Compute Canada)

•      Experience with accessing, managing and analysing human genomics biobank data.

•      Experience in biostatistics, including performing GWAS, eQTL mapping, differential expression analyses, genomic admixture analyses, phylogenetics.

•      Good spoken and written English.

•      Ability to support students with diverse backgrounds in their learning process of computational genomics.

•      Experience in evolutionary medicine and/or data from diverse organisms (microbes, yeast, humans)

•      Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

•      Interact with all members of the team and other groups to elaborate analytic strategies and support students in learning process of computational genomics.
