Tuition waiver for
First Nations and Inuit students
Removing barriers to education
This initiative stems from recommendations outlined in Concordia’s Indigenous Directions Action Plan, created – in part – to respond to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
This initiative aligns with other recommendations in the plan, which include:
- Establishing partnerships and relationships with First Nations and Inuit communities
- Supporting First Nations and Inuit students’ educational choices
- Expanding funding opportunities and removing financial barriers to education
- Increasing the rate of recruitment, retention and graduation of First Nations and Inuit students
Tuition waivers will be effective as of fall 2024; the waivers cannot be applied to terms prior to fall 2024.
Eligibility
You are a member of one of the 10 First Nations in Quebec or Inuit in Quebec
AND
You are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate program, including:
- certificates and diplomas
- bridging programs
- microprograms
OR
You are an independent student at Concordia
The following programs are not eligible:
- Executive MBA (EMBA)
- Investment Management MBA (GIIM)
- Master of Investment Management (MIM)
- programs at Concordia Continuing Education

- Bande des Innus de Ekuanitshit
- Bande des Innus de Pessamit
- Bande des Montagnais de Pakua Shipi
- Bande Innue Essipit
- Innu Takuaikan Uashat mak Mani-Utenam
- Montagnais de Unamen Shipu
- Première Nation des Innus de Nutashkuan
- Première Nation des Pekuakamiulnuatsh

What’s covered
- Tuition and mandatory fees
- For independent students, a maximum of 30 credits are covered
What’s not covered
- Books, materials or other costs specific to courses or programs (e.g., lab coats, field trip costs)
Application process
Students sponsored by their community or band:
- No application is necessary; a tuition waiver will automatically be applied.
Students not sponsored by their community or band:
- Please complete the Tuition & Fee Waiver Form.
