CENTRE FOR THE ARTS IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the extraordinary Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD) with a gift today!

The Anniversary

For 25 years the CAHD has been building self-confidence, improving social skills and enhancing the quality of life of adults with various developmental disabilities.

Having successfully adapted to the new virtual realities of the pandemic, the Centre for the Arts in Human Development continues to work in teaching, clinical therapies and supporting families. In 2020-2021, we served 73 participants including members of the Centre’s Sunday socialization program. The Centre also provided clinical training for 18 graduate student interns, all in a virtual environment.

On the occasion of this milestone anniversary, we invite friends, families and other supporters to celebrate all that our participants have accomplished, and envision all the possibilities the future may hold.

Mark June 17 on your calendar, and join us for our virtual event at 7pm on Facebook.

Why your gift matters

For 25 years, the Centre has served as a bridge between families, Concordia University, and community organizations. Our main objective is giving our participants the chance to surpass expectations and realize new personal goals.

This work would not be possible without the Centre’s generous donors.

Private support will help sustain the Centre and expand current programming. Give today, and help us plan the next 25 years with optimism and confidence.

So many lives have been transformed; your donation will provide future participants the same opportunities.

The goals of the CAHD

Therapy: The Centre offers a three-year day program providing group therapy through art, drama, music and dance/movement. Clients are typically admitted to the CAHD's programs through referrals from social workers at a readaptation centre or CLSC.

Research: The Centre conducts innovative research in the creative arts therapies and continues to expand the knowledge base in the field of disabilities and with other special populations. Recent projects have expanded to include therapy for those with Parkinson’s Disease and parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Education: The Centre is a clinical training site for graduate students in art therapy, drama therapy and music therapy in the Department of Creative Arts Therapies, as well as graduate students in the Department of Education. Professionals in the creative arts therapies supervise interns onsite.

Public outreach: The Centre aims to educate the public and raise awareness about the creative abilities of people with special needs. Over the centre’s history, thousands of people have been reached and inspired through a variety of outreach efforts.
