Digital Device Practices and Policies in Quebec and Ontario K-12 Schools for Learning and Living
About the research
Dr. Giuliana Cucinelli, is offering one scholarship opportunity for a student applying for a PhD in Concordia University’s Education program. The student will focus their efforts on developing policy, curriculum and educational material and resources for K-12 teachers, administrators, students and parents/guardians in relation to digital devices.
Digital Device Practices and Policies in Quebec and Ontario K12 Schools for Learning and Living is a four-year project which explores how digital devices including smartphones and tablets are being used across K-12 schools in Quebec and Ontario. This study pursues three objectives. First, to study and document how digital devices are being used in K-12 schools and for what purposes; 2) to analyze existing policies, rules and regulations related to digital devices at the school, school board and ministry level; and 3) to examine ICT curriculum of existing teacher education programs across Canada.
Requirements
The candidate should hold a degree in education or communication studies. The candidate should be familiar with qualitative research methods and the Canadian education K-12 curriculum. Digital technical skills such as graphic design, video production, web-based and social media knowledge are assets. Furthermore, the candidate must be bilingual (English/ French).
The selected candidate will receive a generous funding package that should exceed $25,000 per year for four (PhD) years of the program. The offer includes a Research Assistantship Bursary, a Teaching Assistantship, and Faculty of Arts and Science Entrance Awards such as the Concordia University Graduate Fellowship (PhD) of $32,400 and Merit Scholarship (MSc or PhD) of $10,000. Applicants will also be considered for tuition remissions, including the Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence (PhD) valued at $35,949, and the Out-Of Province Tuition Remissions (MSc) valued at $6,000.
The successful candidate will have many opportunities to present at conferences, write articles and disseminate their research. The successful candidate will join a thriving network of researchers and will be affiliated to the Milieux- Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology at Concordia University.
