Dear faculty member,

Greetings and welcome to Concordia University, where an exciting chapter awaits you in our vibrant, dynamic and welcoming academic community. Concordia’s Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) is experiencing a transformative period marked by a commitment to inclusive scholarly excellence and innovation. FAS prides itself in providing an exceptional student experience. Our research and creative activities are both disciplinarily grounded as well as resolutely interdisciplinary and interconnected. Together with our students, we tackle the complex issues facing our world globally and locally, by challenging conventional ways of thinking and doing. We are committed to addressing the priorities of the Indigenous Directions Action Plan as well as implementing the recommendations of the President’s Task Force on Anti-Black Racism.

Concordia has a strong tradition of and commitment to engaging communities in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, Québec, and the world. If you came from somewhere else in Canada, from the U.S., or from abroad, know that Montreal has much to offer you as your new home. While you embrace the quality of life in the city, we, at the Faculty of Arts and Science, aim to provide you with the means to:

  • Advance your scholarly activities and interests, aligning with the Strategic Research Plan;
  • Develop the next generation of critical thinkers in your respective fields;
  • Share your knowledge and expertise beyond the university, engaging with communities, governments and industry;
  • Create spaces for student learning, experimentation, and creativity, fostering campus collaboration and inviting partner participation and mentorship; and
  • Offer diverse learning environments that cater to students' varied needs and preferences, ensuring an inclusive and effective educational experience.

Our aim is to ensure that your first year at Concordia is a seamless and enriching experience. To kickstart this journey, Concordia has curated a dedicated section on its website specifically for Faculty & Academic Resources. It is a one-stop-shop offering essential information on teaching support, collective agreements, moving expenses, immigration forms, and various resources. Those resources are designed to help you prepare for your new faculty role and feel at home here, at Concordia.

Our academic communities develop and utilize cutting-edge pedagogical tools and strategies with an emphasis on experiential learning to teach within and across disciplinary boundaries. If you ever need guidance or assistance, you can visit our Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) section. It provides support and resources to the teaching community, using evidence-based approaches to support excellence, opportunity and inclusion for all. The CTL team is just a message away, ready to help you navigate your way. In addition, in developing your research plans, do not hesitate to reach out to the Associate Dean, Research at FAS.

We look forward to supporting you in your academic and personal endeavors at Concordia University, where innovation, diversity and excellence converge. Welcome to our community. We wish you a successful and fulfilling journey ahead!
