Associate Professor
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Marek B. Majewski completed his B.Sc. in 2007 at the University of Saskatchewan (Prof. H.-B. Kraatz) and his Ph.D. with Prof. M. O. Wolf at the University of British Columbia (2013). As a postdoctoral research fellow at the Argonne-Northwestern Solar Energy Research Center and Northwestern University he worked with Profs. M. R. Wasielewski, J. T. Hupp, and O. K. Farha on photoinitiated charge separation and transport to drive molecular solar fuels catalysts.

My research involves the decoration of semiconductor surfaces for solar energy conversion in the form of photocatalysis. In particular, my focus is on the electrodeposition of cuprous oxide on zinc oxide nanowires. By tuning the deposition conditions of the deposition, it is possible to select the morphology of the deposited copper oxide. The different morphologies may present different photocatalytic properties by either having different catalytic activities or different selectivities based on the surface of the material.
