Student projects
Experiential learning is at the heart of SCPA. Our students are encouraged to take on real-life projects and get their hands dirty. Here are a few examples of what they are working on.
Significance of wampum belts
A First Peoples Studies course at Concordia delved into the historical and contemporary significance of wampum belts. This immersive experience offeried students an opportunity to explore Indigenous culture through the creation of art projects and to express their creativity while honouring traditions.
SCPA 301 panel series
These student-run events are held on Concordia University’s downtown Sir George Williams Campus and are free and open to the public.
SCPA 352: Community and Local Activism
This unique course empowers students to design their own learning pathway, including shaping their final project. By removing traditional hierarchies, students engage deeply with real-life community advocacy. An example of this is the Listening Beyond podcast, a 3-year project that uses oral history interviews to connect individual stories to broader social movements, inspiring change. Available on Spotify, the podcast highlights the course’s commitment to linking personal narratives with collective action.
