French Conversation
Learning French is your key to discovering all that Quebec has to offer, and to navigate the job market in this province. Our program is adapted to your proficiency level, whether you're just starting with French or have a bit more experience with the language. Our instructors use real-life scenarios to prepare you for everyday social and professional interactions, making it easy to apply your new skills.
How it works
1. Register for the program
View our upcoming dates and register for the schedule and delivery mode (in-person or online) that suits your needs.
Please note that Concordia faculty and staff must use a netname and password associated with a student ID to register. They can obtain their student ID by following these steps.
2. Confirm your 15-minute placement test appointment
Within one business day following registration, you will receive an email with an appointment for a 15-minute virtual assessment that will determine your starting level for the program. You must respond to this email to confirm your appointment.
3. Undergo your 15-minute placement test
You will receive a email from your evaluator with the virtual meeting link to complete your 15-minute placement test. Following the assessment, you will receive an email with details of your starting level for the program. Learning within a community of the same skill level will put you on the right track to achieving your French language goals.

Our approach
As in the workplace, teamwork is key here. Sure, there will be engaging assignments and activities, but you'll also form ad-hoc teams to discuss real-world subjects presented by industry experts. You'll formulate strategies to solve problems and seize opportunities. Above all, you'll have ample chance to contribute personally to the process. Participation is paramount. This program is offered in two modalities: online synchronous and in person to suit your learning preferences and lifestyle.
Placement and grading
- Students entering the program must take a placement test to determine their proficiency level. These tests are scheduled upon registration.
- A Certificate of Proficiency is awarded upon the successful completion (60%) of Level 6.
- A Certificate of Proficiency with Distinction is awarded to students who achieve a minimum grade of 75% upon the completion of Level 6.
