Awel Uwihanganyeis co-owner and managing director of Silverback Travel Company, which specializes in safari tours in Uganda. He recently served as CEO of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and on the board of directors for the Capital Markets Authority.
A social entrepreneur, Uwihanganyeinitiated the Young Achievers Award in Uganda and the Concordia Volunteer Aboard Program (now called CEED: Community. Empowerment. Education. Development.). He is also the founder and CEO of LéO Africa Forum, an organization promoting responsible leadership and building a strong voice for Africa around the globe.
Passionate about promoting social justice, Awel currently serves as country program coordinator for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung foundation in Uganda and South Sudan.
He spends part of his time reading on leadership and contemporary global politics and is working on his first book whose working title is Learning to lead in a globalized era.
Awel is a recipient of the Forces Avenir Award and a fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and the African Leadership Initiative.
