Jessica Winton is a fierce advocate for trans and queer students, with a strong commitment to fostering inclusive communities. As an urban planning student, she goes beyond the classroom, driving bold sustainability initiatives and revolutionizing waste management systems at Concordia.
She is president of Queer Concordia, having previously served as event coordinator. During her tenure with the student group, she helped enliven Queer Concordia during COVID-19 and the return to campus. She also organized Concordia's first Queer Prom.
She is most proud of her role in creating the Gender Affirming Insurance Community Fund for Queer Concordia, which started with $20,000 to support students’ healthcare needs. Her advocacy extends to the provincial level, where she collaborates with a coalition of groups working directly with politicians on healthcare reform.
Winton is president of the Concordia Games Club, uniting students through board games and party games. Thanks to her efforts, video games are now also available.
As a Concordia sustainability ambassador, Winton led the creation of the Waste Invaders educational arcade game. She is community engagement lead and research assistant for the Openwaste.AI app and serves on the City of Westmount's Environmental Advisory Committee and her MNA's youth council.
Winton looks forward to pursuing a master’s in environmental sustainability to strengthen her leadership in building a sustainable future.
Her leadership and dedication to the community were recognized with a Quebec Lieutenant Governor’s Youth Medal in 2024. She received the Concordia University Alumni Association's Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Award in 2025.
