Requesting a classroom

Please contact your department if you wish to request an active learning classroom for the next academic year, 2025-2026. Your request must be submitted through the SIS by January 12, 2025.

Guidelines

When requesting an active learning classroom (ALC), keep in mind that:

  • Faculty representatives and/or department adminstrators can request an active learning classroom on behalf of instrutors using the SIS. On the SIS Meetings Page, enter “OOTR_ALC” in the Facility ID box by January 13, 2026 to request an active learning classroom for summer 2027, Fall 2027 and Winter 2028.
  • Making a request does not guarantee an ALC room will be scheduled. If an ALC room is not available, a regular room may be assigned.
  • Due to high demand for ALC rooms, departments are asked to refrain from requesting ALC rooms randomly for entire programs or departments.  (Kindly narrow down which specific professors actually need or would like to try out the ALC rooms).
  • Departments will be informed by mid-March of each year if an ALC room CANNOT be assigned.  In this case the department has the option of changing the day/time to a slot where an ALC room is available.
  • First priority for ALC rooms goes to classes where the official course capacity is closest to the room size, if no other room is available for a larger class.
  • As with all OOTR room bookings, no specific room can be guaranteed, which we encourage professors to consider in terms of their pedagogy.
  • A room assignment can change to accommodate disabled students or professors, or to address unexpected emergencies, such as a water leak or electrical problem.  In these situations, room changes can occur at any time – right before the start of term, or even once the term has started. Professors are expected to be able to teach in any type of room assigned.
  • Faculty assigned to teach in ALC rooms are responsible for following up by opening  a ticket with IITS to become oriented to ALC room equipment (IITS Service Desk help@concordia.ca). Faculty can also contact CTL to request support with active learning techniques and strategies and use of classrooms.
