Join us for our first edition of Black Praxis with Charles Campbell.

Brought to you by the Black Perspectives Office and the Black Arts Series, this mentorship session, facilitated by renowned visual artist Charles Campbell is completely free and created specifically for a select group of Black visual artists at Concordia University. This is a unique opportunity to present your work, receive e constructive feedback from Charles and your peers, and engage in meaningful discussions on navigating your artistic journey beyond university.

This session is designed to support and empower emerging Black studio artists, offering insights into the creative process, professional development, and the realities of the art world. Whether you're looking for guidance on refining your artistic voice, preparing for exhibitions, or exploring funding opportunities, this mentorship session will provide both practical advice and inspiration to help shape your future in the studio arts.

What can you submit?

Your submission can be a concept, a work in progress, or a completed piece, but it must be submitted through the application form below.

This can include:

  • Paintings, sculptures, or mixed-media works
  • Photography and digital art
  • Any visual art project you are developing

About the artist

Charles Campbell is a Jamaican born multidisciplinary artist, writer and curator based on lək̓ʷəŋən territory, Victoria BC. Using sculpture, sound, installation and performance, his work pulls at the threads of time. Finding channels into the past and future Campbell reconstructs broken somatic, communal and spiritual connections, creating spaces of solace and meaning for all of us living in the wake of slavery and colonization. Campbell’s artworks, have been exhibited widely in the Caribbean, Canada and internationally. He is the recipient of numerous awards and holds an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College and a BFA from Concordia University.

About the Black Perspectives Office:

The Black Perspectives Office (BPO) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and accessible environment at Concordia University by actively opposing all forms of racism, discrimination, and oppression. Grounded in an anti-racist, anti-colonial, and anti-oppressive framework, BPO works to bridge connections within the university, collaborate with local resources, and support initiatives that uplift Black communities. In partnership with the President’s Task Force on Anti-Black Racism, we are committed to addressing systemic inequities and advocating for Black liberation and justice. Located on the traditional territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation, we stand in solidarity with Black communities and activists fighting against anti-Black racism worldwide.

About the Black Arts Series:

The Visual Collections Repository (VCR), the NouLa Black Student Centre and the FOFA Gallery have joined together to showcase, support, and empower Black creatives through the newly created Black Arts Series.

About NouLa

The NouLa Centre for Black Students is dedicated to fostering Black students' full engagement, access, and sense of belonging at Concordia. We offer resources, services, and programming for Concordia students from Black communities, and we bridge access with internal units and external organizations that can support Black student success and wellness.

About VCR

The Visual Collections Repository (VCR) supports research and teaching for the Faculty of Fine Arts by providing visual resources media services and programming and training opportunities for students, faculty and researchers.

About FOFA

The FOFA Gallery is the primary venue dedicated to showcasing the current artistic and research practices of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Through exhibitions, publications, and events, the gallery makes public the work of Concordia alumni, faculty and staff.
