Run by grad students from Concordia's Department of English, Headlight Anthology has reinvented itself since 1998, when its first issue was printed. Misha Solomon (member of the new editorial team) facilitates a conversation with Sherine Elbanhawy and Carlos A. Pittella (co-managing editors of issue #24), and Penelope Kerr (managing editor of issue #21 and editor-in-chief of issue #22), about the challenges and opportunities of editing Headlight before, during, and "after" the pandemic.

Misha Solomon

Misha is a homosexual poet in and of Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. He is the author of two chapbooks, FLORALS (above/ground press, 2020) and Full Sentences (Turret House Press, 2022), and his work has recently appeared or is forthcoming in Best Canadian Poetry 2024, Headlight Anthology, Hungry Zine, Plenitude, and Vallum.

Sherine Elbanhawy

Sherine (she/her) is an Egyptian-Canadian writer from Cairo, who lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. She’s the founder of Rowayat, a literary magazine showcasing SWANA writers and their diasporas. Her debut poetry translation is the poetry of Mohsen Mohamed, No One On The Line (Laertes Press, 2023). Her writing has been published in The Masters Review, The Malahat Review, Room Magazine, ArabLit and elsewhere.

Carlos A. Pittella

Carlos (he/him) is a Latinx poet & the recipient of a Frontier 2022 Global Poetry Prize. Born on traditional lands of the Tupi, Guarani, & Goitacá (Rio de Janeiro), he lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. His writing is haunted by borders, having recently appeared in Frontier, Radar, Acentos, & The Capilano Review.

Penelope Kerr

Penelope is an editor and communications professional who lives in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. She has a decade of experience working on marketing materials, academic and literary texts, corporate communications, and other types of documents, dating back to her involvement with student-run journals during her time spent studying literature at Concordia and McGill.
