The Canadian Historical Association has just announced the finalists for its two most prestigious annual book prizes. It is a very good day indeed for the Concordia History Department when two of our colleagues, Professors Nora Jaffary and Ronald Rudin, are among the historians so recognized!

The Wallace K. Ferguson Prize recognizes the year's outstanding scholarly book in a field other than Canadian history, written by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Among the five finalists for the 2017 prize is Nora Jaffary's Reproduction and its Discontents in Mexico: Childbirth and Contraception from 1750 to 1905 (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2016).   For more information and the full list of finalists, go to http://www.cha-shc.ca/english/what-we-do/cha-prizes/the-wallace-k-ferguson-prize.html#sthash.1soa99hd.dpbs.

The Sir John A. Macdonald Prize is given to the work of Canadian history judged to have made the most significant contribution to an understanding of the Canadian past. There are five finalists here as well, including Ron Rudin's Kouchibouguac: Removal, Resistance, and Remembrance at a Canadian National Park  (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 2016).  To learn more, visit http://www.cha-shc.ca/english/what-we-do/cha-prizes/the-sir-john-a-macdonald-prize.html#sthash.2WUPwbpr.dpbs.

The winners will be announced at the CHA Annual Prize Ceremonies that will take place at Ryerson University on Tuesday, May 30.
