There is excellent news to report about Emma Park, an alumna of our BA and MA programs. Emma, who did her MA under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Ivaska and went on to a PhD at the University of Michigan, has recently taken up a post as Assistant Professor of History at the New School for Social Research in New York.

Emma's Masters' thesis was entitled "The Routes of Rule: The Role of Roads in Kenyan Governance and Popular Evaluations of ‘Development’ and Authority, 1890s -1992" and won our McCullough Prize in 2014. It formed the basis of her doctoral dissertation, "Infrastructural Attachments: Technologies, Mobility and the Tensions of Home in Colonial and Postcolonial Kenya," which she completed at Michigan in 2017 under the supervision of Gabrielle Hecht and Derek Peterson.
