Dr. Max Bergholz's book Violence as a Generative Force: Identity, Nationalism, and Memory in a Balkan Community has recently been awarded the Laura Shannon Prize in Contemporary European Studies. Bergholz confronts the 'unconfortable truths' that begin to explain behaviour while challenging widely-held beliefs about the link between nationalism and violence.
